YOT Review Talkshow @ HRC Jakarta

Another unforgetable night i had tonite. I'm glad and relieved that the "YOT" Review Talkshow @ HRC Jakarta went well.

Some came before 6pm, and mostly everyone came at 6.15-6.30pm. I gave my tonite's agenda briefly and called Mr. Vikram, "The Whopper Guy" from Burger King.

What an interesting background Vic has; born in India, went to school in UK, worked as a waiter, then back to India, before moved to Sydney to work for Hyatt Hotel as the F&B Manager, then take a step back to become a Burger King store manager! In 2 years, he then become the Store Operations Director of BK, handling over 200 stores. Got an opportunity to set up BK in Shanghai, he took it! Then later he's promoted to be the Director of Operations & Training BK Asia Pacific, based in Spore. After travelling 3weeks in a month for several years, he decided to get out of his comfort zone and take another step back yet challenging journey, to set up BK in Indonesia. Here he is now,...also starting Dominos Pizza here. I'm sure VIC's 8 Points that he shared all valid and we all can learn from that.

2nd guest speaker was Mr. Agung, "The World's Local Guy". He's the Senior VP of Group Communications HSBC Indonesia. He is trully a Public Relations guy, there's his passion is. Got his Masters from USA, he came back to Indonesia to work in various industries; from brand consulting, to Good Year, to HSBC until now. Knowing where you want to go and focus would be what he believes that everyone has to have in order to succeed. With his humbleness, he said he isn't successful yet. He would feel he is when he starts 'giving back'. Well, Mr. Agung, you are successful because you've shared what you know to all of us here tonite!

Thanks to these two guys, and active audience we had tonite. If the band at HRC Jakarta didn't start playing at 9.30pm, i'm sure the Q&A session would finish at midnite?

Great to have an opportunity to actually chat with everyone attending this talkshow. I got your business cards, and will definitely get to know you guys more in the future. BUT,...when you guys asked me to hold such talkshow once a month, hmm, i'll let IYEC to handle it moving forward, okay?

On this occassion, i'd like to thank JIM Executives, Hard Rock Cafe Jakarta, Optik Seis, and Kis 95.1fm Jakarta for their support.

See You ON TOP!

Mr. Fauzi Bowo LIKES Young On Top

On Friday May 26, I was invited to appear on 'Apa Kabar Indonesia' on TV ONE as an author of "YOT" together with Melanie Subono, author of "Oooucch", to support Pesta Buku Jakarta (PBJ). The chief of PBJ, Mr. Hikmat, was also there.

Before the shooting, i had a chance to meet with Mr. Fauzi Bowo, Governor of Jakarta. I gave "Young On Top" to him. Surprisingly, a day after that, when he was giving an opening speech for Pesta Buku Jakarta, he mentioned and discussed about my book. He said he was given a book "Young On Top" by the the author, Billy Boen. He had only read 10 pages but he found it very interesting. Unfortunately, the book's 'gone missing'. Perhaps it's being consumed by one of the member of his family; his family likes to read books.

I will send you another copy to your house, Pak. :D

Cheers!

YOT Knowledge Sharing Session @ SMART Telecom

Hmm, what an experience for me to join SMART Telecom "Young On Top" knowledge sharing session the other day...

I wasn't feeling well since the night before, but i just had to be there (i was excited) to share what i have and to answer questions and doubts they have with regards on 'is it really possible for everyone to be YOT?'
Glad to be with such an energetic team with Mba Ayu as the team leader, the sharing session began. Soon, there were thousands questions were shot toward me. Ha ha, yea yea, i'm just exagerating here. But seriously, there were great questions...

- Billy's from rich family, got his MBA from USA, no wonder i'm successful; what do i think of that perspective?
- Do I believe in luck? Do i think i am as successful as i am today because of luck?
- How to make someone likes to read books?
- Successful people have to be mean, what do i think?
- Professional (employee) can't be rich,...what do i think?
- After what i've accomplished, do i want to retire young, retire rich?
- What was my dream before i accomplished all this? What is success according to me
- What did i do to earn respect from the 4 team members i led at Nike while i was only a fresh graduate and they were experienced employees that have been working there for more than 5years?

I do hope i've answered all the above questions and doubts and change them all to inspirations. Know what you want to achieve and believe it...always strive to 'get there', and at no time you'll be there.

Meeting with +/-30 members of Logistic Division at their BSD office, was definitely an unforgetable moment for me. They have become my friends, and just what i wrote in my book,...i like to make friends and keep them forever. So, SMART Telecom Logistic Division, you are my friends, let's keep in touch!

Cheers,

"How Starbucks Saved My Life" by Michael Gates Gill

"How Starbucks Saved My Life" by Michael Gates Gill adalah buku yang baru saja saya baca.

I do mean it: semua orang! Baik yang baru lulus kuliah, yang sudah bekerja dan sedang merintis karir, maupun yang sudah ada di top manajemen. Buku ini akan mampu membuat kita berpikir kebelakang dan introspeksi diri kita masing-masing.

Great to have read this book, it has given me a new perspective in life.

Cheers,
